It is with great sadness that we acknowledge that, following the tragic accident involving the Mexican naval sail training ship Cuauhtémoc in New York last weekend, she will understandably, not take part in The Tall Ships Races 2025 this summer.
Cuauhtémoc is a ship which brings joy wherever she goes. She represents the true spirit of international friendship and is a wonderful ambassador, not only for Mexico, but also for the entire sail training community. As a team, who value our close ties with tall ships around the world, we feel enormous heartbreak towards our fellow sailors this week and our hearts and thoughts are with our friends of the Cuauhtémoc family at these saddest of times.
We have welcomed this majestic ship to The Tall Ships Races many times and she will be deeply missed by the host ports, visitors, the fleet, and the Sail Training International team.
We know that as sailors, the Cuauhtemoc crew are nothing if not resilient and we very much look forward to welcoming them back to future Tall Ships Races.
