Popular Scottish musicians join the full line-up for The Tall Ships Races’ stunning Quayside Concerts in Aberdeen

The full line-up of acts for the stunning Quayside Concerts at The Tall Ships Races Aberdeen has been revealed – and it includes some of Scotland’s most popular homegrown talent.

Indie darlings Glasvegas and Brooke Coombe, the Midlothian-born rising star of homegrown soul, are thrilled to be on the bill for the gigs – including headliners Deacon Blue, Kaiser Chiefs, and Ministry of Sound Classical - that have sparked an unprecedented demand for tickets to the unique open-air concerts.

And giving the line-up a distinct Aberdeen accent are the Granite City’s own The Little Kicks, The Capollos and the Look Busy Collective, who all have a massive following in the north-east.

The support acts were revealed today (Friday, June 13) – just as tickets for the keenly-anticipated Tide Lines and Calum Bowie Quayside Concert go online, with organisers expecting them to be snapped up quickly.

The full line-up for the Quayside Concerts is:

Deacon Blue (Friday, July 18)

  • Brooke Combe
  • The Little Kicks

Ministry of Sound Classical (Saturday, July 19)

  • Paul Oakenfold
  • Look Busy Collective

Tide Lines (Sunday, July 20)

  • Calum Bowie

Kaiser Chiefs (Monday, July 21)

  • Glasvegas
  • The Capollos

The Quayside Concerts series is a once-in-a-generation event that will see some 7,000 fans flock to Peterson Seabase, which is being converted from a working goods yard to a vibrant gig space.

Brooke Combe said: “I’m made up to be on this show with Scottish Legends Deacon Blue in Aberdeen, it’s going to be a great night of music.”

The Little Kicks said: “We are absolutely delighted to be performing as part of the Tall Ships concerts in Aberdeen this Summer.  These concerts are undoubtedly going to be a real highlight of the Summer in the city, and it’s a real honour to be part of them.

“To support Deacon Blue is a dream come true for us because as well as having fond memories of their music soundtracking our youth, they are still a great live band who continue to tour and stay relevant as a well-loved mainstay of Scotland’s musical output.

“We have always admired them from afar, so to finally share a stage with them to a hometown crowd will be a real privilege and no doubt a very special night for us.”

The Little Kicks combine soaring vocal harmonies and infectious guitar hooks with the distinctive warmth of analogue synthesizers and were previously shortlisted in the Best Musical Group category at the Sunday Herald Scottish Culture Awards, having toured regularly with great success across the UK and Europe.

Brett Thain, guitarist with The Capollos, said: “Being part of the Tall Ships and representing Aberdeen is monumental for Capollos. We are proud to be from Aberdeen and being selected to be part of the incredible music programme is an honour. We can’t wait to play to so many of you”

The Capollos, who combine melody, energy and swagger, have a huge following in the north-east and had their profile boosted by being named as “the one to watch” by Northsound Radio.

Look Busy Collective said: "As we are all from the north-east, we are excited to be taking part in a high-profile event with such an amazing line-up.

“We hope as many people as possible can make it down to hear our set, which will be influenced by the many gigs and parties we've played at or organised in the Granite City over the years."

Look Busy is a collective of five DJs, producers, record collectors and radio show hosts who have been involved in the underground house scene for more than a decade, playing clubs and festivals across the UK.

A spokesperson for The Tall Ships Races said the existing excitement over the Quayside Concerts would only grow now the full line-up has been revealed.

“Every one of the acts we have announced today are a massive draw in their own right and they will make every one of the Quayside Concerts a night to remember for fans lucky enough to have grabbed a ticket.

“We are also particularly pleased that the line-up has what can only described as having an Aberdeen accent and we can’t wait to see the reaction our homegrown acts get from the thousands of fans playing these unforgettable gigs.”

Tickets for the Tall Ships and Calum Bowie concert were released today. It is a charitable event with tickets at £5 each, with proceeds going to support the RNLI, whose lifeboat station, crewed by volunteers, is critical to water safety in Aberdeen.

“We know how popular Tide Lines and Calum Bowie are and we expect places to be snapped up so our advice to fans is not to delay but book now,” said the spokesperson.

The Deacon Blue and Kaiser Chiefs gigs are sold out and a waiting list is now in place. The Ministry of Sound Classical gig is down to the last few remaining places.
